New Cat Cafe

What’s better than a good cup of Joe? How about a coffee date with the purrfect feline companion.

Cat Town Cafe & Adoption Center in Oakland, Calif., which is being billed as the first of its kind in the U.S., opened its doors on Saturday.

“I thought of having a cafe because I thought it’s a way of passively luring people in who aren’t necessarily thinking about adopting, but once they come in they’ll see a cat and realize that there’s a void in their life and will make room for that cat,” Cat Town founder and president Ann Dunn told Reuters.

San Francisco Bay-area cat lovers can reserve an hour of Cat Zone playtime with the adorable kitties when they donate $10 to the center’s adoption efforts.

Walk-ins are welcome, but these patrons aren’t guaranteed quality time in the Cat Zone, according to the website.

Those looking for their caffeine fix can get coffee and human treats in the other section of the cafe, Eater San Francisco reported.

The pawsome cafe is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, while the Cat Zone opens at 10 a.m.

All of the kitties at Cat Town Cafe are up for adoption.

While this is the first permanent cat cafe to open in the U.S., New York welcomed America’s first pop-up cat cafe in April.

Construction recently began on KitTea in San Francisco, which will be a tea house where guests can play with and adopt rescued cats.
